 I haven't found much use for a blue laser except to energize fluorescent materials and initiate explosions in nitrogen triiodide at a distance.

 Ultraviolet LED flashlights are generally used to to energize various substances, minerals and small insects (scorpions and such) since they illuminate an area rather than a small spot. This one from Walmart is inexpensive and very effective.
