I have had my laptop out in the observatory testing scopes this last week in temperatures below 30 degrees. After about 2 hours the laptop begins to malfunction and programs begin to slow down. I solved that by using a Kendrik's laptop heater pad (takes about 3.5 amps at 12 volts). Now my laptop is happy and runs all night long without dropping out. 25 degrees is too cold for laptops.

I was just going by what you said -- that you "started getting COM Errors". To me that sounded like there were probably more than two COM errors. The mount will park itself if the connection is lost when "Safety Park" is enabled (it is by default).

That said, at 25 F some devices won't perform correctly, so temperature might be a factor. Have you used the same setup and versions of software during warmer conditions? If so, did you encounter a similar problem?

Sure, but if there was some sort of temperature related issue with your computer or peripherals the logs might not help isolate the problem.

Please use the APCC log zipper to zip logs and settings. You can post or email a dropbox link to the logs. Please don't forget to include the 10-minute date/time window so I know where to look. (Thanks! :-)
