Just thought I'd send an update: in the end I had to send the RA assembly to AP for repairs. Learned a bit about the mount, too (I'm at least the 3rd owner): it was delivered to its original owner back in 2001, so it's 16 years old!
I don't know if this is its first repair ever, but overall not so bad for a 16 yo mount.
