Re: Tubular Explosion in SH2-129
Wow, I've been looking for a really clear image of this object. My search has ended.

this strange object is Ou4 (aka The Squid) in Sharpless2-129. it was discovered by French imager Nicolas Outters in 2011. initially, researchers thought it was a planetary nebula but that has been ruled out and its origin is still under investigation.
i captured data on this over several nights in September and October. at this scale, it took me a few tries to get the framing right (FOV is about 100x70 arcmin). Ou4 is large and very faint!
My AP mount made it possible. for the OIII data i varied between 30min and 60min subs. i had a few unusable 60min subs which i suspect was due to stretching the limits of using a guide scope of 100mm focal length with an imaging scope of 1120mm LF (image scale between the two setups is about 10:1 which is no problem for any subs 30min or less. the guide scope is rigidly attached to the focuser using an AP finder bracket).
Scope: TEC160FL @ f/7
Guide scope: SBIG e-finder and RGH
RGB: 15x15m each
OIII: 12x30m + 7x60m
