That puts a different light on the matter. I guess it was me having a senior moment instead, and lost track of who was speaking in the debates, at the time. This now makes perfect sense. Perhaps, star planetaria and projectors are beyond McCain's "experience" - describing it as a candle powered "magic lantern" would have been more illuminating.
(... I know - my own cheap shot - no offence intended, but I couldn't resist the pun).

You have it backwards, Joe. It was McCain who used the projector
earmark as a "cheap shot" against Obama. Obama had, of course, gotten
this funding for the Adler Planetarium, which is in Illinois, the state
he represents.
